About last week’s solar eclipse

As most of you probably know already, a total solar eclipse crossed the Iberian Peninsula last week. It was the first in more than a century, so everyone here was pretty excited.

I thought I was going to miss it because I had a flight scheduled at the very same time, but when we were boarding the plane, the airline had a surprise ready for us:

They had eclipse glasses for everyone, and before taking off, the captain told us he planned to ask permission to make a 360-degree turn so every passenger could see the eclipse from their side. As you can see on the FlightAware map, he got permission and gifted us a very special memory. I didn’t know it wouldn’t be the only surprise of the day. Once I got home, I decided to share the experience on Twitter, and my tweet went viral, reaching 1.3M views.

We couldn’t see totality, but Iberia chartered an exclusive flight to view the eclipse from the air and shared some very cool videos. They’re not the only ones who decided to view it from above.
